Now that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has selected Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his running mate, we took a dive into Sen. Harris’ legislative experiences during her first term in the Senate:
Harris has sponsored 131 bills since joining the Senate in 2017.
While she has only had Senate Resolutions enacted, her most successful bill and driving sponsors was S. 488: Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2019 which had 48 sponsors, 16 of which were Republicans.
Her top legislative issue is Health based on number of sponsorships and cosponsorships, with 38 bills sponsored and 341 cosponsored. While Harris is most active on Health, she’s seen the most success on getting legislation enacted on Crime and Law enforcement. Seven Crime and Law enforcement bills she has sponsored or cosponsored have left committee and four have been enacted.
Harris is most frequently cosponsored by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ).
Harris most frequently sponsors Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ). Harris votes most frequently with Sen. Gillibrand (D-NY). The pair vote in the same way 71 percent of the time.
